Bella Steele is an interdisciplinary artist currently making and working in Boston, Massachusetts. Interested in societal norms and social structures, Steele’s work primarily uses sound and image to address the malleable nature of language, gestural communication, and what we know to be true. Bella currently works as a freelance art preparator, carpenter and farmer.

If I Speak It, It Is True ​questions the hierarchy of information : word vs image, suggestion vs fact. Systems of power historically disapprove of the notion to question what we are told, which has had lasting effects on the inner-workings of communication. Employing banal moments veiled as grand declarations of truths, this work exemplifies the desire to question what we know to be true.
